Dental veneers are a great way to enhance the appearance of teeth. It is an efficient solution to hide severe discoloration and stubborn stains, and even make the teeth appear more evenly spaced and elongated. Nowadays superior qualities of porcelain veneers are available that can last for several years without any trouble. They do not require any special daily care or maintenance either.
These advantages of veneers make it worthwhile to make a one-time investment in terms of money and time, and reap the benefits for years to come. The duration of the veneers application process may vary from one patient to another. It depends on the number of teeth that need to be veneered.
If there are several teeth requiring veneers, say canine to canine, or pre molar to pre molar, it may take anywhere between four to five hours to cover the first stage of the process. In this stage, first the teeth that require veneers are prepared. Then an impression is obtained which will be used later on to fabricate customized veneers in the laboratory. The same impression is used to fabricate temporary veneers until the permanent ones are ready.
It takes about three weeks to fabricate permanent veneers in the lab. In the second stage, the permanent veneers are applied to your teeth. During this stage, the temporary veneers are removed, and then the patient tries on the veneers. Some minor adjustments may have to be made until the patient feels comfortable with the appearance, color and bite. Thereafter, the veneers are cemented permanently to the front surface of the teeth. This entire process may take two to three hours in a single sitting.
